Fire on a ferry in Indonesia: there are dead, dozens of missing

The ferry Mutiara Sentosa 2 was heading across the Java Sea from the city of Surabaya in East Java to Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province. People jumped straight into the water, many of them were picked up by other ships, but there were also ships that were afraid to approach so that the fire would not spread.

Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, and water transport is of great importance to it. Emergencies are not uncommon here, both due to difficult navigation conditions and the poor condition of the vessels.
