Rocket attack on Ukrainian Konstantinovka, many dead

On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, an explosion occurred in the center of Konstantinovka (Donetsk region of Ukraine). The rocket exploded in the market area in the central part of Konstantinovka, near the Mercury shopping center.

At least 17 people died, about 50 were injured.

The Ukrainian side claims that, presumably, the attack was carried out using S-300 anti-aircraft missiles.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the strike was carried out by “artillery of Russian terrorists.” He called the strike on the market in Konstantinovka a “deliberate act of terrorism by the Russian Federation.”

The Russian telegram channel “Military Informant” offers a different version of events, suggesting that a missile fired by a Ukrainian aircraft exploded in Konstantinovka. However, the arguments of the authors of this channel are doubtful, since they base them on one freeze frame (where people look in one direction, presumably at a flying rocket), and in other frames people are seen looking in different directions, probably reacting to the sound of an approaching rockets.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has repeatedly stated about strikes by “operational-tactical, army aviation and artillery” on Konstantinovka. In July 2023 alone, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported 12 such strikes. In August-September 2023, no such reports were received from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
