Washington Post: Israel’s goal of destroying Hamas is far away

The American Washington Post newspaper published a remarkable analysis of Israel’s attacks on Gaza. In the analysis, it was underlined that Israel has not yet come close to its goal of destroying Hamas in Gaza, and it was claimed that Israel could not fully maintain control in the north of Gaza, which was its first target.

According to the news of Orhan Oğuz from NTV, the Washington Post analysis pointed out that Israel could not capture Hamas’ strongholds, kill a sufficient number of Hamas members, close the tunnels in Gaza, and prevent Hamas from firing rockets into Israeli territory.

According to Oğuz from the Washington Post, Israel could not fully maintain control even in the north of Gaza, which was the first target of the land operation. It was also claimed that Hamas was making intense preparations and preparing for violent clashes in some districts of Gaza city.

According to the newspaper, Gaza’s Shucaiyye district is among the places that have still not been captured. This district was the site of the most intense clashes with Hamas members during Israel’s Gaza attacks in 2014. The Israeli army could not fully maintain control in Jabaliya. Therefore, it is noted that the bloodiest conflicts have not yet begun in these regions.

It is estimated that Hamas has 27 thousand to 40 thousand members and Israel has killed 5 thousand Hamas members so far.

Israeli officials state that their main targets are Yahya Sinvar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, and its military leader Mohammed Deif. It is noted that an intense intelligence activity is being carried out to find these two names. Israeli officials emphasize that they are determined to continue their operations until Sinvar and Deif are killed.

The Washington Post newspaper also analyzed the situation of the tunnels dug by Hamas under Gaza. According to experts, Israel has still not managed to capture and destroy one-third of these tunnels.

French President Emmanuel Macron also said, “We are in a period when the Israeli administration needs to define its goals and ultimate goal more clearly. Does anyone believe that it is possible to completely destroy Hamas? If this is the goal, the war will last 10 years.”
