A guitar once played by John Lennon and long thought lost has surfaced. The instrument was found in an attic in the United Kingdom and will go under the hammer at the end of May.
The Framus 12-string Hootenanny guitar is featured in several photos from studio sessions for the album ‘Help!’ and in the 1965 Beatles film of the same name. The price is estimated between 600,000 and 800,000 dollars (about 560,000 to 750,000 euros), reports the New York auction house Julien’s Auctions.
The guitar reportedly ended up in a roundabout way in an attic in southern England, where it gathered dust for more than 50 years. John Lennon himself gave the instrument to musician Gordon Waller in 1965, who in turn passed it on to his manager. His heirs have now found the guitar in the attic of a house. The auction house decided to thoroughly refurbish the guitar so that the musical instrument can be played again.
