World chess champion Garry Kasparov was arrested in absentia in Russia

The Syktyvkar city court arrested in absentia world chess champion Garry Kasparov, ex-State Duma deputy Gennady Gudkov, co-founder of the Free Russia Forum Ivan Tyutrin and former environmental activist Egenia Chirikova, all of whom were previously recognized as foreign agents in the Russian Federation.

TASS, citing the press service of the court, reports that Kasparov, Gudkov, Tyutrin and Chirikova are accused of creating a terrorist society, leading it, financing terrorist activities and publicly justifying them.

The court statement said that it granted the requests of the investigative authorities to choose a preventive measure in the form of taking the listed persons into custody.
