Russia announces the capture of the town of Ochertine, in eastern Ukraine

Russian troops took full control of the town of Ochertine, in eastern Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry reported this Sunday.

“Units of the ‘Center’ troop group as a result of active actions, they released the town of Ochertine completely,” is stated in a statement from the Ministry of Defense published on Telegram.

Ochertine is the fourth town captured by Russian troops in the last ten days in the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk, annexed by Russia in September 2022.

Previously, the Russian military command reported its forces had taken control of the towns of Novobajmutivka, Semnivka and Berdichi, all of them between five and 10 kilometers north of Avdivka, a Ukrainian stronghold captured last February.

According to the report, the Russian forces rejected a total of eight Ukrainian counterattacks in the last twenty-four hours.
