The Teatro Real will host the Mortier Next Generation awards ceremony in March 2027

The Royal Theater will host, on March 6 of next year, the awards ceremony Mortier Next Generationawards that are awarded every two years to support projects by artists linked to the world of poetry who are at the beginning of their career.

Thus, the prize is worth 30,000 euros and includes one or more scholarships at the Berlin Institute for Advanced Studiesa center that brings together scientists and artists from all over the world every year, for a maximum period of ten months.

These artists develop a project of their choice in coexistence with professionals from different academic contexts – composers, writers, journalists, film or theater directors, or diplomats.

The contest, which accepts applications for the 2026 edition until October 30, 2026, can be submitted by people under 35 years of age and who provide a description of the project that exposes its concept and viability.

Besides, They must present photographs, sketches, videos or similar materials and the text must not exceed 6,000 characters.

The jury, made up of independent artists from different disciplines and the artistic director of the institution where the awards will take place – in this case, Joan Matabosch, artistic director of the Teatro Real – will announce the name of the winners in December of this year.

Created in 2014, by the director of the international Ring Award competition, Heinz Weyringer, and the then editor-in-chief of the German music magazine, Albrecht Thiemann, the Gerard Mortier Awards were born with the aim of recognizing those professionals in the world of opera who, with their work, contribute to the modernization of the genre and its institutions.
