Player (25) dies after World Cup: Many questions, emotional farewell

After the sudden death of the South African national soccer player Jayden Adams his partner addressed the public with moving words. “There are no words for the pain I feel,” Aqueelah explained to Chloe Adendorf in an Instagram post.

“Rest in peace my love. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, every hug and every moment we shared,” she wrote. “You have not only been the love of my life, but also my biggest supporter and my best friend.”

Police launch an investigation

Adams died of unknown causes at the age of just 25. According to the BBC, police have launched an investigation after the football professional’s body was discovered in a house in a suburb of Cape Town on Saturday morning. Just a few weeks earlier, the midfielder from South African club Mamelodi Sundowns had been in action at the World Cup in North America. He played for South Africa in all three preliminary round games.

After Adams’ death became known, numerous politicians and companions from South Africa as well as clubs from all over the world expressed their condolences. FIFA boss Gianni Infantino also expressed his condolences. Adendorf thanked everyone for their sympathy: “Thank you very much for your loving condolences and messages of support. They mean a lot to me and Allaïa during this difficult time.” Allaïa is the couple’s daughter.
