Triathlon: German triathlon team misses medal at World Relay Championships

The German relay team clearly missed the medal they were aiming for at the Mixed World Championships in Hamburg. Lisa Tertsch, Valentin Wernz, Franka Rust and Tim Hellwig finished the competition in fifth place, 1:17 minutes behind the victorious French quartet (1:18:37 hours). Hungary won silver (+ 4 seconds). This was followed by Great Britain (+ 13 seconds).

Tertsch was ranked first in the DTU team. She took the lead at the end of the run and sent Valentin Wernz into the second section with a narrow lead. However, the man from Tuttlingen was unable to keep up with the high pace of his co-favorites on his run and handed over to Franka Rust in fourth place, who then continued to lose ground.

Final runner Hellwig finally started the last section almost 40 seconds behind the four leading teams.

The German team, however, had reason to be happy in the individual races of the World Cup series on Saturday. Tertsch came second in the women’s sprint race. In the men’s race, Henry Graf reached the finish line in third place and was on the winner’s podium for the first time in an individual World Championship race in the Hanseatic city.
