In a show of confidence in the tourist and economic recovery of Acapulco, Mexicana de Aviación resumed its route this Thursday between the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and the Guerrero port, a connection that seeks to strengthen the arrival of visitors and expand mobility options to one of the main beach destinations in the country.
The air connection had stopped operating in January 2025, when Mexicana adjusted its route network. His return adds to the efforts to strengthen activity in the Guerrero port, which experienced critical moments after the pandemic and then due to the passage of the hurricane. Otis.
The route will operate with three weekly frequencies. The flights will leave AIFA on Thursdays and Fridays at 4:00 p.m., while on Sundays they will take off at 11:00 a.m. In the opposite direction, from Acapulco, operations are scheduled to take place on the same day, which will allow maintaining a direct connection between that port and the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico.
Before takeoff, the general director of Mexicana, Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, assured that the airline aims to expand its route network, as well as “democratize access to air transport.”
“We are convinced that connectivity is a great transformation tool that boosts competitiveness, strengthens tourism and creates well-being for communities, such as in this case the port of Acapulco, our emblematic port of great national tourism,” said the manager.
At 4:30 p.m., the Mexicana Embraer 195E2 plane, with flight number 1942, took off from AIFA and arrived at the Costera Miguel Alemán land 41 minutes later, at 5:11 p.m.
The head of the Guerrero Tourism Secretariat, Simón Quiñones, said that Acapulco is advancing and growing strongly. Last May, the port had its best month, even above 2019, the year before the covid-19 pandemic.
The official added that between January and May, the number of passengers who arrived in Acapulco grew 7.7 percent compared to the same period last year, going from 294 thousand to 317 thousand. He added that from June of last year to date, eight new air connections have already been incorporated to Guerrero, of which five arrive to Acapulco and three to Ixtapa, something that “reflects the confidence of the airlines in the state. We are in a very positive moment; we have 17 thousand rooms for everyone who arrives in Acapulco… We continue to grow,” he stated.
The return flight, 1943, left Acapulco airport at 6:29 p.m. and arrived at AIFA at 7:13 p.m.
