The Reina Sofía archives the investigation into the expulsion of women with Israeli flags after finding no violation

The Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum has archived the internal investigation opened after the incident that occurred with three visitors carrying Israeli flags and stars of David in its facilities on February 14, 2026, determining that “there are no indications of conduct that justifies the opening of a disciplinary file, nor irregularities in the actions of its own personnel or the external security service.”

This is stated by the Government in a written parliamentary response, to which Europa Press has had access, following the PP’s question about the responsibilities of professionals who “harassed and expelled the tourists” and whether the art gallery has “sufficient information to clarify what events occurred and for what reasons.”

According to the Executive, the Museum’s Security Area prepared a preliminary report on February 25 and, a day later, the institution agreed to open a prior information period in accordance with the Common Administrative Procedure Law.

After the completion of this process, on March 2, 2026, once the reports and testimonies collected had been analyzed, it was concluded that there were no indications of conduct that justified the opening of a disciplinary file, nor irregularities in the actions of its own personnel or the external security service. Consequently, it was agreed to file the proceedings as no evidence of a possible infringement was found.

The incident became known through a video shared by the organization Action and Communication on the Middle East (ACOM), in which a security guard is seen urging three women with Israeli flags to leave or hide their symbols, arguing that “there is a public that is bothering them.”

The Reina Sofía “unequivocally” expressed its commitment to equality, religious freedom and zero tolerance against any type of violence or discrimination related to anti-Semitism. The art gallery defended that the Museum’s staff is “highly” qualified in matters of fundamental rights, conflict management and prevention of any type of discrimination.
