La Jornada: Today the 34th national tour of the Mexican Children’s Symphony begins

In the context of the National Circuit of Orchestras for Peace and Territories of Peace, the Children’s Symphony Orchestra of Mexico (OSIM) will tour from today until August 9 through public squares and venues in Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, San Luis Potosí and Mexico City.

The group, made up of more than 130 instrumentalists up to 17 years old, originating from all regions of the country and foreign guests, will perform works by the Mexicans Nubia Jaime-Donjuan, Amador Pérez Torres Dimas, Juventino Rosas and Juan Pablo Contreras, as well as Giuseppe Verdi and Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky.

The head of the National Musical Promotion System (SNFM), Roberto Rentería Yrene, considers that the 34th tour of the OSIM “ponders values of national unity and harmony”, in addition to the fact that the selected pieces combine “the technical rigor of concert music with the vitality of traditional and popular Mexican music, while putting into practice the skills that each instrumentalist developed in the camp to precisely articulate works such as Tchaikovsky’s Symphony number 5 and The force of destiny, by Verdi.

“With the waltz On the waves, by Juventino Rosas, and the danzón Nereids, by Amador Pérez Torres, the musical force of the OSIM builds an emotional bridge with the public with the aim that attendees live a close and empathetic experience; that they feel that concert music is for everyone,” adds Rentería Yrene.

Regarding the group’s 34th national concert tour, the federal Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, commented: “working with children is investing in the present and future of the country. The OSIM demonstrates that talent and musical excellence are built in all territories, it brings together girls, boys and young people from different regions, expands their training opportunities and makes music a space to learn to listen, collaborate and build more united and peaceful communities.

The OSIM tour is part of the National Circuit of Orchestras for Peace, one of the actions of the National Circuit of Festivals for Peace, a strategy of the federal Ministry of Culture (SC) that promotes free concerts, festivals and artistic activities in the 32 entities of the country, in order to promote collective participation, strengthen community coexistence and expand access to culture as a right for all, and the Territories of Peace program.

The 137 instrumentalists are originally from Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Coahuila, Colima, state of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala and Veracruz, in addition to two from Costa Rica, one from Panama and a couple from Uruguay; 142 participants in total.

Of the instrumentalists, 17 belong to the Creative Seedbeds of Music (promoted by the SNFM), coming from community groups such as the children’s and youth orchestras El Centinela and Río Nuevo (Mexicali), Forjadores de El Sauzal (Tijuana, Baja California), the Casef band (Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua) and the Raíces del Viento band (state of Mexico), as well as the Young Leaders orchestras (León, Guanajuato), Renacimiento (Acapulco, Guerrero), Vasco de Quiroga (Pátzcuaro, Michoacán), Tampico (Tamaulipas) and the Renacer string band (Mérida, Yucatán), as well as the children’s and youth band from Teotitlán del Valle (Oaxaca).

The OSIM will be presented today at 6:00 p.m. in the General Emiliano Zapata Salazar square (Cuernavaca, Morelos); on Tuesday the 4th at 7 p.m. at the City Theater, Parque Tangamanga I (San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí); on the 5th at 8 p.m. at the Roberto Plasencia Saldaña Bicentennial Theater, of the Cultural Forum (León, Guanajuato), and on the 6th at 7 p.m. in the Plácido Domingo room of the Santander Performing Arts Complex (Zapopan, Jalisco).

On August 7 he will perform at 7 p.m. in the Plaza de los Constituciónntes (Apatzingán, Michoacán); on the 8th at 6 p.m. in Plaza Morelos (Morelia, Michoacán), and will conclude their tour with a concert on Sunday the 9th in the main hall of the Palace of Fine Arts at 5 p.m.
