“This is a show, it’s being surreal”

The Spanish producer Leo Sánchez, winner together with Alberto Mielgo of the Oscar for best animated short film for ‘The wiper’, has recognized that he still does not know “what it feels like” to obtain the statuette, because has not yet “assimilated” the victory.

“I don’t know what it still feels like to win, this is a show, we are from one place to another and you have the Oscar in your hand”, The producer, who has made an aside during the celebration party, in which he has ‘lost’ the director, Alberto Mielgo, has explained in statements to Europa Press.

“I am with my girlfriend and friends and all this is being something surreal but very impressive. It is difficult to describe. Alberto is impossible to locate, even for me. We have separated, we went together when leaving the gala, but he goes from here to there and now I don’t know where he is anymore“, he acknowledged between laughs.

Sánchez has explained that, despite being among the favourites, until he has heard the name of his short, he has not been seen with the statuette in his hand. “The possibilities were there and we were aware of it, but the level was very high. There were very independent shorts, for adults, and it could go to anyone: one tried to stay out of it,” has pointed out.

The producer has also referred to the most mediatic moment of the gala, Will Smith’s smack to comedian Chris Rock. “Alberto and I have been put in a room with all the celebrities who were going to speak on stage: we were with Robert de Niro, Bill Murray, the Williams sisters, everyone looking at the screen, and suddenly everyone is silent“, he commented humorously.

“The truth is that it seemed unreal and there have been many questions about whether I was ready. At the Oscars lunch I had the opportunity to talk a little with Will Smith and he seems like an incredible guy, I don’t know what happened there, but at any This case seems very unfortunate to me. A thing like this enters the anecdotal, but it is a bit strong“, has added.

Sánchez has affirmed that Spanish cinema is going through “a very good and great moment at a world level”, but especially animation. “Especially because of the platforms, short films are beginning to gain another type of importance, in There are incredible talents in Spain and this has only just begun“, it is finished.
