The end of charlatanism in the field of chiropractic: after more than a decade, the Knesset approved the law regulating the practice in the field that focuses on non-pharmacological treatment of musculoskeletal and joint problems. Those engaged in the profession will henceforth be under supervision and will be required to meet professional requirements. Chiropractic is a manual form of treatment, without drugs and without surgery, which focuses on the spine and the rest of the body’s joints, its purpose is to give normal movement to the vertebrae and improve the function of the spine and the nervous system, and it is designed to relieve pain and improve the health of the muscles, joints and the whole body.

according to Prof. Shaul Thazif, Director of the Licensing Division of Medical Professions at the Ministry of Health, the law has been waiting to be completed in regulations for about 14 years and the current Minister of Health promoted their drafting and regulation and submitted the amendment to the legislation with transitional provisions for those already engaged in the field in Israel. The committee discussed the text of the amendment to the law regulating the practice of the health professions, so that the transitional provisions will recognize both the studies of the field in non-academic institutions abroad, and the easing of requirements regarding exams, practical training and supervised work for those who are already engaged in this in Israel, including for the purpose of encouraging immigration and absorption.

The meeting also dealt with the regulations regarding the exam subjects in the field, the scope of the required supervised work, the supervised work permit, and the completion of the practical training to obtain a recognized certificate. In order to allow organization to complete the requirements according to the regulations, the starting date of the ban on pretending to be a chiropractor for those who are not certified will be postponed for two years.

Dr. Yitzhak Cohenthe director of the Israeli Chiropractic Association, clarified that the practical training is necessary to complete the studies, and there is no way abroad to receive a practitioner’s certificate in the field – without this training. The chairman of the committee, MK Yoni Meshriki (Shas) He said: “The market is full of imposters and charlatans in the field, and it is our duty to clarify who is authorized to engage in this.” The committee further discussed the need to regulate the practice of additional professions in the field of complementary medicine in Israel.
