Jani Sievinen participated in the open water swimming event: “The ranking was first”

It was Sievinen’s first start since the 2006 European Short Course Championships, when he ended his successful competitive swimming career.

In the Puruvesi Swim event, 2.5, 5 and 10 kilometer routes were swum. Sievinen swam a distance of 2.5 kilometers in the race. In the video he shared on Instagram, the swimmer thanked the clear water and the wonderful competition setting.

“Comeback made, if it was such a thing. A great event and an insane body of water.”

“The ranking was number one,” says Sievinen.

Along with the video, however, Sievinen says that the swimmers in the longer series were faster than him.

“Actually, a few 10 km swimmers were faster than me at 2.5 km. And that was the finish line of my series. A wonderful experience and a victory over fear,” Sievinen writes.

Champion swimmer told in the spring exciting competition and especially swimming in natural waters.

“As a swimmer, I’m used to swimming in clear water, but in lake water, swimming is practically in the dark. It really scares me if I’ll have a panic attack, for example. Many swimmers have this same feeling.”

In his swimming career, Sievinen has achieved, among other things, Olympic silver and World Championship gold. Today he coaches swimming.
