We raise the sails: The renewed Assassin’s Creed hit arrives tomorrow

One of the most beloved games in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series, the 2013 pirate adventure Black Flag returns tomorrow, July 9, 2026, in a brand new guise. Titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, this full-blooded remake has been rebuilt from the ground up for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, promising a return to the golden age of piracy with technology and mechanics adapted to modern games. The Ubisoft Singapore development team used the latest version of the Anvil Engine to breathe new life into the adventures of Edward Kenway.

The Caribbean more beautiful than ever

The first and most obvious change is a complete visual transformation. Resynced abandons the technical limitations of old consoles and brings breathtaking graphics. Using the Anvil Engine, which powers newer titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the Caribbean has become more lively, immersive and immersive. The game implements ray tracing technology for realistic lighting, advanced water physics that makes sailing more convincing, and a dynamic weather system. Strong storms now visually and mechanically affect the world, and there is also the possibility of partial destruction of the environment during battles. One of the key technical improvements is the removal of loading when entering large cities like Havana or Kingston, making exploring a completely fluid and uninterrupted experience. All of this will run at 60 frames per second on new generation consoles.

Modernization of the pirate craft

In addition to the graphic upgrade, Ubisoft has paid great attention to modernizing the basic gameplay mechanics. The combat system has undergone significant changes; now it’s more action-oriented, with an emphasis on parrying punches accurately and performing chain eliminations. The Hidden Blade can no longer be used in open combat, but her role was returned exclusively to covert eliminations and contextual moves. Parkour, a trademark of the series, has also become more fluid with new animations and moves like free jumps and faster bouncing off walls.

Less frustration, more freedom

One of the most important interventions relates to the improvement of “quality of life” elements, especially those that frustrated the game in the original. Edward can now finally go anywhere, which drastically improves sneaking options. The biggest change was experienced by the infamous surveillance and eavesdropping missions. Actor Matt Ryan, who voices Edward Kenway, confirmed the changes.

- Tracking and Eavesdropping missions have been reworked. In the original game, if you were detected, it meant immediate desynchronization. Yes, we remember that it was a big pain point. Now the action continues, your goals remain, but the target will react and you have to adapt to the situation – explained Ryan.

Expanded with new content

Resynced is not only a technical upgrade, it is a biggerć it also brings hours of new narrative content. The story is expanded with new missions that focus on favorite side characters like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. The big news is the introduction of three recruitable crew members for Edward’s ship, the Jackdaw. Each of them – Lucy Baldwin, Padre and Deadman Smith – brings its own set of missions and unlocks new abilities for the ship. Lovers of sea navigation will be delighted by new pirate songs (sea shanties), created in collaboration with the musician Woodkid, as well as the possibility of adopting a pet, such as a cat or a monkey, on board. The multiplayer mode has been completely removed, and the sequences from the modern era at the company Abstergo have been removed, which will be welcomed by many players who used them to interrupt the rhythm of games. Instead, optional “Rift” missions have been added, missions that explore “what if” scenarios for Edward and others.
