Mattarella’s message for the 212 years of the Carabinieri: "A long history of loyalty to the homeland"

“In the days in which the 80th anniversary of the Republic is celebrated, the Carabinieri turns 212 years old. Since the debut of the new system, the Carabinieri has played a valuable role, since the transition that led to the consolidation of the republican institutions, in confirming an irreplaceable bond with the local communities, fulfilling the mission of guaranteeing the security framework within which the citizens’ freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution develop.

The work of the Carabinieri, in the wake of a long history of loyalty to the homeland, makes a highly relevant contribution to collective security and daily civil life, drawing inspiration, with professionalism, from the values ​​specific to the Corps”.

The President of the Republic states this, Sergio Mattarellain the message sent to the General Commander of the Carabinieri, Gen. CA Salvatore Luongo.

International commitment and tribute to the fallen

“Prominent presence in the peacekeeping missions in which Italy participates, in geopolitical crises and conflicts, the Carabinieri collect, in synergy with other national and allied armed forces, also appreciation from the local authorities and the populations of the countries in which they have been called to operate.

The sacrifice of the women and men of the Army calls for the gratitude of the entire national community. In particular, I recall the figures of Marshal Carlo Legrottaglie, Carabiniere Sebastiano Marrone, Second Lieutenant Marco Piffari, Marshal Valerio Daprà and Selected Officer Davide Bernardello. The sympathy of the entire national community goes to their families.

In expressing, on this day, the Republic’s most intense feelings of gratitude to the Carabinieri, both on duty and on leave, and to their loved ones, who anxiously share their risks and sacrifices, I extend my warmest wishes to all.
