The policies of European bureaucrats are leading to a further weakening of Europe’s position in the world economy and threaten its regional stability. It was the Russian president who denounced it Vladimir Putin in his speech at the plenary session of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (Spief)during which he accused Western elites of fomenting chaos into which they would try to drag more and more countries.
The Kremlin leader defined the strategies of the European bureaucracy as “short-sighted” and “aggressive”, admitting that the pressure on Russia remains strong but underlining, at the same time, how the country has been able to develop new commercial partnerships. With this in mind, Putin reiterated that Moscow remains open to anyone interested in collaborating on a completely fair level.
The attack on Western currencies and the debt confrontation
During his speech, the Russian head of state warned the West that sanctions and asset freezing have already caused damage irreversible to the euro and the dollar. According to Putin, the seizure of the Federation’s foreign reserves essentially amounts to a “theft” that has dented the value of global currencies. The president warned that, from now on, any country could lose access to its legitimate resources for the most disparate reasons: from the conflict in Ukraine to wars in the Middle East and Africa, up to the positions taken on the LGBT community.
Demonstrating the stability of the Moscow system, Putin announced that the Russian public debt stands at 16.4% of GDP (with internal estimates placing it as high as 15.8%), a figure much lower than those recorded on the opposite side. The Russian leader in fact recalled how the average debt of the Eurozone has risen to 81.7% in 2025, citing the macroscopic cases of Greece (146%), Italy (137%), France (115%) and Belgium (108%).
High tension in Romania: a drone explodes in the port of Constanta
While political accusations ricocheted from St. Petersburg, a new peak of tension was recorded on the European security front Romania. And naval drone self-destructed inside the civil port of Constanta, near the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for the Protection of Life at Sea. Bucharest’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the explosion occurred around 10.30am, causing no casualties or injuries.
The episode occurred just a week after another serious precedent, when a Russian drone hit an apartment building in the Romanian city of Galati following a raid on Ukrainian infrastructure close to the river border. That impact, which caused a fire on the roof of the building, was harshly condemned by the leaders of the European Union and branded by Bucharest as a grave escalationculminating in the expulsion of the Russian consul from the Romanian capital.
