Bulgarian woman (57) pretended to be a doctor, ‘extracted’ more than €13,000 from three Croats: They are looking for two more

The Zagreb police reported a 57-year-old Bulgarian citizen suspected of defrauding three elderly people for a total of 13,000 euros with an unknown man and another unknown woman, falsely presenting themselves as doctors asking for the money needed for an operation.

As reported by the Zagreb Police Department (PUZ), a 57-year-old Bulgarian citizen is suspected of three criminal offenses of defrauding an 80-year-old woman, an 88-year-old woman and an 89-year-old woman.

The three-member group would start the fraud in such a way that an unknown man and woman telephoned people whom they would convince in their story. A man would falsely present himself as a doctor, and an unknown woman would “play” an injured family member in the background, and the 57-year-old suspect would come to the address to get money for the operation.

In this way, on June 26, around 21:00 in the area of Dubrava, an unknown man called an injured 88-year-old woman on the phone and falsely introduced himself as a doctor, stating that a member of her immediate family was seriously injured and for the purpose of further treatment. The injured party should pay for the operation. Convinced of the truth of the story, she was devastated and handed over the money to the 57-year-old woman.

Furthermore, on June 27, just after 12 o’clock in the area of ​​Susedgrad, they contacted the 80-year-old woman in the same way and convinced her of the truth of the story, where she also handed over all her money to the 57-year-old woman. Then on June 29, after 2 p.m. in the Novi Zagreb area, they cheated an 89-year-old woman in the same way.

The police point out that by conducting a criminal investigation on June 29, through their operational work, they exposed and found the suspect, a 57-year-old woman, in a hotel in the area of ​​Trešnjevka. She was arrested there and taken to the official premises, and most of the money from the three described frauds was found with her.

After the criminal investigation was completed, the suspect was handed over to the custody supervisor, while a special report was submitted to the competent Municipal Criminal State Attorney’s Office in Zagreb.
