Netanyahu will appoint a new Interior Minister as he cannot assume his duties due to his legal cases

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has agreed to appoint a new head of the Interior to fill the vacancy left by Moshe Arbel, who resigned in July 2025, for not being able to assume his duties due to the legal cases against him.

The Israeli Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, has informed the Supreme Court that Netanyahu has agreed to appoint a new Minister of the Interior, although there is still no specific date for said appointment, according to ‘The Times of Israel’.

This comes after the NGO Movement for a Quality Government presented a petition to the Supreme Court, asking that a new Minister of the Interior be appointed after Arbel’s resignation in July 2025, when the Shas party left the coalition due to disagreements with mandatory military service for haredi students at the ‘yeshiva’, the Jewish study centers.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin took office on an interim basis, although his provisional mandate expired in October. In the absence of an acting minister, various powers of the office can be transferred to the prime minister. However, Netanyahu will not be able to assume them due to the trial against him for alleged corruption, according to the newspaper ‘Haaretz’.
