Trouble with high-rise construction at Berlin’s Alexanderplatz – U2 only runs on one track

There is trouble at a hub of Berlin’s local transport – and that on one of the most important subway lines in the city. The BVG has problems with the high-rise building at Alexanderplatz.

For safety reasons, the U2 only runs on one platform in the underground station. On the other track, measuring devices showed too much displacement.

A monitoring system was installed for the excavation pit in the U2 station. The BVG announced that work on the high-rise construction site was suspended.

Construction experts from the BVG and external experts are to examine the statics of the station and the position of the tracks. The BVG announced that the first results are expected in two weeks.

Until further notice, the U2 trains will only run regularly between Pankow and Senefelderplatz. A single-track shuttle train runs between Senefelderplatz and Klosterstraße every 15 minutes.

Between Klosterstraße and Potsdamer Platz, trains run regularly on both platforms. Up to Gleisdreieck you have to commute again because of another construction site. At the Gleisdreieck it is possible to change to the currently installed U12 (Warschauer Straße – Ruhleben).
