“Today at 2:35 p.m. a kamikaze drone attacked a military base of the Ministry of Defense of the Moldovan Republic Transnistria in the district Rybnitsa six kilometers from the border with Ukraine,” said the Ministry of State Security of the self-proclaimed republic on Friday.

The target was a radar station, it said. According to the information, the station was slightly damaged and there were no injuries or deaths. Ukraine was not directly blamed for the attack.

On March 17, the separatists had already reported an attack on a military base in Transnistria. At that time it was said that a drone had been fired from Ukrainian territory. The government in Chisinau rejected the information as “scaremongering”. Kiev accused Moscow of being responsible for “a provocation in Transnistria.”

The predominantly Russian-speaking region of Transnistria between the Dniester River and the Ukrainian border split off from the newly independent Republic of Moldova after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Kremlin has around 1,500 soldiers permanently stationed in the region.
