The House Armed Services Committee rejected an amendment that would have excluded the provision for expanding military-industrial cooperation between the United States and Israel from the defense budget.
The amendment was introduced by Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna. He proposed blocking the expansion of joint projects between Washington and Jerusalem in the development and production of weapons and technology.
Pro-Israel members of the committee opposed the amendment, saying that the controversial clause benefits not only Israel but also the United States and also improves existing control mechanisms.
During the discussion, Khanna said that “the American people are tired of the arrogance and impudence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu” and emphasized that he was acting “in the interests of the country.”
