La Jornada: Grupo Carso’s profits grew 10.6% in April-June

Grupo Carso, Carlos Slim’s conglomerate, reported a net profit of 2,964 million pesos between April and June 2026, an increase of 10.6 percent compared to the same period in 2025, driven by the performance of its oil division and Grupo Sanborns.

According to the report sent to the Mexican Stock Exchange, the group’s income rose 3.9 percent in the quarter to 48,194 million pesos. However, the operating flow (Ebitda) fell 15.7 percent, reaching 7,184 million pesos.

The company attributed this fall to the appreciation of the peso, which on average strengthened 14.3 percent against the dollar in the quarter and affected the conversion into national currency of income generated abroad, mainly those of Carso Energy, whose sales depend entirely on foreign currency and fell 13 percent annually to 735 million pesos.

In contrast, Zamajal, the group’s oil business division, almost six-folded its quarterly income, going from 476 to 3,241 million pesos, thanks to its operations linked to Pemex. Its Ebitda shot up 548 percent, to 538 million pesos.

Grupo Sanborns, meanwhile, increased its income 8.4 percent, to 17,810 million pesos, although its profit fell 6.3 percent, to 566 million pesos, after its operating and administration expenses increased 8.5 percent.

Carlos Slim’s company explained that this increase responds to the implementation of a new Oracle system to modernize its internal processes, as well as greater reserves for bad debts and salary adjustments for its workforce.
