Strength, speed and dribbling: What new reinforcement promises to Coritiba

The attacker Brian Ocampo arrived at Coritiba to increase coach Fernando Seabra’s offensive options. Upon his arrival, the 26-year-old Uruguayan presented his main characteristics and revealed which position he feels most comfortable in on the field.

“I prefer to play as a left winger or as a midfielder. I have speed, strength and dribbling too”, he explained, in an interview with the club’s official channels.

Announced by Coritiba last Friday (3), Ocampo has not yet participated in the training game against Chapecoense, held this Friday (10), at CT da Graciosa. As he was in season in Spain, the striker received a few days off until the end of his contract, before joining his new club and is now undergoing a period of physical improvement.

The Uruguayan stated that he intends to contribute in different ways so that Coritiba achieves the objectives set for the season. “Deliver, help the team with whatever it needs, support the club’s objectives, take advantage of it on the field and make the team do well,” he said.

How Coritiba reinforcement Brian Ocampo plays

Right-handed, Ocampo plays mainly on the sides of the field, but can also appear in a more centralized position. Last season, he played 31 games for Cádiz, which finished 18th in the Spanish second division, scoring five goals and distributing two assists.

With seven direct goal contributions, the striker recorded the best offensive numbers of a season in his professional career.

Last season for Cádiz, the striker was used mainly on the left side, a position currently occupied by Breno Lopes, Coxa’s top scorer in the Brazilian Championship, with eight goals. Still, the ability to play on both sides and also as a midfielder could facilitate his use by Fernando Seabra.

Competition in the offensive sector is not a concern for the new reinforcement. For Ocampo, sharing the squad with quality players can contribute to its evolution. “Competing with good players is good. Having good teammates helps you improve, fight and also enjoy the club’s goals”

When not facing physical problems, Coritiba’s starting offensive trio has been formed by Pedro Rocha, Breno Lopes and Lucas Ronier. Joaquín Lavega appears as the fourth alternative and has started the last six games as a starter, replacing Breno and Ronier on different occasions.

The reserve bench still has Keno and Fabinho, less used so far. At times during the season, faced with a lack of options, Seabra had to improvise full-backs JP Chermont and João Almeida as wingers.

Ocampo’s arrival also expands the alternatives in a possible scenario of Lucas Ronier’s departure. A standout for Coritiba in recent seasons, the striker continues to be watched by clubs in the national and international market.

Uruguayan references and knowledge about Coritiba

When talking about his references in football, Ocampo named Luis Suárez as his main Uruguayan idol. The attacker also stated that he already knew Coritiba before receiving the proposal. A former teammate of midfielder Carlos de Pena, who played for Coxa in 2025, Ocampo started to follow the club more closely during the negotiations.

“I played with Carlos de Pena and, as I follow him, I had already seen some matches. When the proposal came up, I followed him more closely for a long time”, he said. The Uruguayan, who played for the Uruguay national team in 2021, also showed enthusiasm about the opportunity to compete in the Brazilian Championship.

“The level of the league is seen all over the world. Seven players left Brazil to be called up for the World Cup, which is very good”, he analyzed.

Brian Ocampo can be signed by Coritiba from July 20th, when the transfer window opens. Coxa returns to the field two days later, on Wednesday (22), at 7:30 pm, against Palmeiras, at Couto Pereira, for the 19th round of the Brazilian Championship.
