Registrations are open for the Tiber Skiff, the first international rowing regatta on the Tiber. The event will be the sporting heart of ‘We Can Blu it! 2026’, an event of the ‘piùblu’ association, dedicated to the relationship between sport, environment and health: from 25 to 27 September the Tiber will become a great space for sport, environmental education and civic participation. Now in its third edition, ‘We Can Blu It!’ grows and, we read in a note, in collaboration with the Italian Rowing Federation, As Luiss, and with Almaviva, an Italian digital innovation group, as main partner, chooses the river that gave rise to Rome as the protagonist, thanks to the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, Lazio Region, of Roma Capitale, Department of Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle, of CONI, of the Italian Canoe and Kayak Federation, of the WWF and the Marevivo Foundation. Adnkronos will be media partner of the event. Among the various technical sponsors collaborating on the initiative are Filippi Boats, a world leading company in the design and construction of Olympic rowing boats, Six Senses Roma, Dott, a European urban micromobility company and Segafredo.
The ‘Tiber Skiff’ represents the main sporting novelty of the 2026 edition. For the international regatta, inspired by the famous ‘Silver Skiff’ of Turin, athletes from all over the world will arrive in the capital, transforming the Tiber into a true international rowing arena on 26 September. For three days the stretch between Ponte Milvio and Ponte Sant’Angelo will be transformed into a large open-air stage where sport, environmental sustainability, scientific dissemination and civic participation will dialogue through a program of events, competitions, workshops and experiential activities. The objective is to restore centrality to the Tiber, bringing citizens, students, athletes, tourists, institutions and companies back to experiencing the river as a common good, an environmental and biodiversity heritage and a meeting place between different communities.
The Almaviva Blu Race, scheduled for September 27th, will be another race of the ‘We Can Blu It! 2026’, an event that offers a rich program of activities: from canoeing and kayaking competitions, with trials open to the public, to inclusive initiatives created with the involvement of the Special Olympics movement. Promoted bypiùblu, an association committed to the protection of rivers and aquatic ecosystems, ‘We Can Blu IT!’ provides a complex program of environmental actions that will involve citizens, schools, universities and local associations. Participatory clean-ups are planned along the Tiber, recovery and valorization activities of the slopes to the river, environmental monitoring and dissemination moments dedicated to the quality of the water and the consequences of micro plastics with Isde, the doctors for the environment. An experiential village open to the city will also be created on the quays with workshops, educational activities, meetings with researchers and popularizers, a space dedicated to schools and universities, sports areas and a main stage which will host talks, awards ceremonies, shows and moments of discussion on the future of rivers and cities, thanks also to the participation of WWF, Marevivo, Greenpeace, Retake Roma, Fai, Legambiente, Lipu, Plastic Free, Evera Clean Up and Ostia Clean Up and Tevere Day. Among the central events of the event are also the ‘bluetalk’, a moment of discussion dedicated to the relationship between environment, health and urban regeneration which will see the participation of representatives of institutions, the academic world and scientific research.
