Athletics World Championships in Rome, government approves financing guarantee

The government has given the green light to guarantee the financing, together with other institutional entities, for Rome’s candidacy to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The positive outcome of the process was announced by the federal president of the Fidal Stefano Mei, at the end of a meeting in Rome with the ministers Andrea Abodi (Sport and Youth) and Giancarlo Giorgetti (Economics and Finance).

“The path of Rome’s candidacy -explained President Mei- he respected all the institutional steps, within the expected times and ways. I am happy that the quality of the work done so far has been recognized, and government support, to whom goes the great thanks of all Italian Athletics, gives the project the necessary solidity. Now the final match begins, the one in which we will compete with the other candidates for the assignment of the event: certainly a difficult comparison, with an outcome that is anything but obvious, but in which we will present ourselves with the support of the country”.
