New Israeli attack on Gaza: A child and two other Palestinians were killed despite the ceasefire

An Israeli army official confirmed that an airstrike was carried out, but did not provide details. The Gaza Ministry of Health announced that the Israeli attack took place around 9:30 a.m. local time in the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas. Israel occupies about 60 percent of Gaza.

Since Saturday, the Israeli army has killed twelve Palestinians, including eight men and four children, according to the Ministry of Health. A Palestinian teenager was killed by Israeli soldiers during an attack in the occupied city of Al-Bireh in the West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced. The Israeli army said it was investigating the incident, in which soldiers returned fire at a person suspected of throwing stones at them.

The Israeli army announced on Sunday that it had killed a member of Islamic Jihad, another militant group in Gaza, claiming that he kidnapped Israeli civilians in an attack on October 7, 2023, since, with a ceasefire, this latest conflict has been ongoing.

Israel has repeatedly carried out attacks on Gaza since a US-brokered ceasefire with Hamas was reached last October, claiming to target militants who threaten Israeli soldiers in Gaza or those involved in the 2023 attack.

Hamas has accused Israel of violating the truce, while Nikolai Mladenov, the Gaza Peace Council envoy appointed by US President Donald Trump, said the agreement had been violated by both sides.

Since the ceasefire came into effect eight months ago, 1,045 Palestinians, many of them civilians, and four Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza, according to data from both sides. Hamas does not disclose the number of its victims.
