Phil Collins kertoo alkoholismistaan: ”Ihmiset tulivat hyvästelemään”

British musician Phil Collins, 75, says he struggled for years with severe alcohol addiction. He reveals In an interview with the Sunday Times that he was close to death at the end of 2023.

In November 2023, Collins was hospitalized due to his alcohol consumption. He was discharged before Christmas, but just a few weeks later he was rushed back to the hospital and intensive care, where he lay unconscious. The recovery took a total of seven months.

“I was really lucky to get through it. Needless to say, I haven’t had a drop of alcohol since,” Collins told the Sunday Times.

According to the musician, his kidneys were failing and several organs stopped functioning normally.

“People came to say goodbye, but I don’t remember anything about it. I had no idea it was happening. Everyone was afraid they wouldn’t see me again.”

Collins has talked about his alcohol problems before. He has said that the addiction worsened due to long-term back injuries and the resulting health problems.

In 2011, Collins announced his retirement to spend time with his young children.

In his autobiography published in 2016, he described that he spent long periods alone and resorted to alcohol.

In November, Collins will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist. He has already been named to the gallery of honor as a member of the band Genesis.
