“The big surprise was that globally, uncoordinatedly, there were very large increases in all three of the generous forms we asked about in the Gallup Global Survey,” John Hevel, one of the report’s authors, told CNN. The report examines happiness around the world – the happiest countries, those that are at the bottom of the happiness scale along with the factors that lead to it.

The three generous forms the livelihood talked about are donating to charity, helping a stranger and volunteering. The index that rose the most is foreign aid in 2021.

Another encouraging point was that in the past year global concern and pressure have dropped in the second year of the corona plague. “I think part of it is that people knew a little bit more about what they were dealing with in the second year, even if there were new surprises,” Hevel said. The report also found differences in happiness between generations: “For young people, life satisfaction has declined, while for those over 60, it has risen – with little general change.”
